Location

MedicDelhi, India’s multidimensional capital, is a beautiful blend of a rich history and a vibrant present. While the old city consists of ancient forts, majestic temples, and narrow winding alleys, the new city offers skyscrapers and well-planned tree-lined avenues. There is an endless amount of exploring you can do in Delhi. In addition, you are ideally located to visit the Taj Mahal and the city of Jaipur during a tour of the ‘golden triangle.’

Project Information

As a volunteer, you will be assisting local doctors on a mobile clinic. In an effort to provide medical assistance to people who have little or no access to medical facilities, the mobile clinic goes out to rural villages outside of Delhi. The clinic has two doctors and two nurses, and goes out Mondays to Fridays. They mainly focus on providing medical aid to elderly people, who are not mobile enough to get to any local clinics they might have. You may be involved in the following activities:

• Assisting the local medical staff in providing first aid help, such as treating wounds, taking blood pressure, doing tests, etc.
• Registering patients who are treated at the mobile clinic
• Helping with handing out medication to patients
• Helping raise awareness on health issues through educational campaigns

A Typical Day
The mobile clinic leaves around 9 am, and comes back around 3 pm. You will have a short break for lunch. Please note, however, that your schedule may vary slightly from day to day, depending on which village you are visiting.

Accommodation
You will stay in a hostel or with a local family in the southern part of Delhi. You will be placed in accommodation close to the hospital you work in, so that it is easy to get to work. All accommodation is close to amenities, such as shops, restaurants, and internet cafes.

Meals
All your meals are provided for you during your stay. If you live close enough to work, you might come home to eat lunch, and you will otherwise get a packed lunch.

Getting There and Start Dates
You will fly into Delhi International Airport, where you will be picked up by our volunteer co-ordinator, and taken to your accommodation.

Should you want to participate in the week-long orientation programme upon arrival, you will have to arrive on the first or third Monday of the month. Should you choose not to participate in the orientation programme, your arrival date is flexible.

Support
Throughout your stay, you will be assisted by our volunteer co-ordinator. On the projects, you will also be assisted by qualified doctors and nurses.
